April Showers Bring Spring… Art?

Spring is here in St. Johnsbury, and as mud season recedes and crocuses appear, we are welcoming you to #getdowntown with street-side dining, art exhibitions, poetry, and more.

Our friends at Catamount Arts have been particularly busy. Here’s just a sampling of what they’ve been doing to fill our town with art this spring:

> PoemTown St. Johnsbury is a celebration of National Poetry Month in April. You’ll find more than 120 poems written by community members on display in the windows of businesses throughout downtown. Find the full list of poems and display locations here, or at the St. Johnsbury Welcome Center or St. Johnsbury Athenaeum.

> St. J Art on the Street “Evoking Spring” exhibition is now on display in storefronts along Railroad Street and Eastern Avenue and fills downtown with joy and color. Exhibiting artists include Bob Manning, Curran Broderick, Frederick & Frances Alger, Arista Alanis, Nanine Beard, Keith & Florence Chamberlin, Craig Harrison, Crystal Matthew, Carolyn Hawkes, Naomi Bossom, Cynthia Steil, and Carol Lebarron. Information about the artists and their work, including purchase details, is available via easily accessed QR codes in the window displays.

> Call for Community Haikus! As part of PoemTown St. Johnsbury and St. J Art on the Street, community members are invited to write haiku poems to be posted downtown alongside St. J Art on the Street exhibitions. Writers of all ages can pick up yellow “haiku circles” at Cosmic Cup Café on Eastern Avenue, Boxcar & Caboose or Moose River Lake & Lodge on Railroad Street. Haikus should be printed legibly in black ink on a circle, and returned to Catamount Arts (there is a plastic tub on the front steps for deposit). Haikus will be accepted throughout the month of April.

…not only that, but there’s a new performance venue in town! Check out the performance lineup at Catamount Arts’ brand new ArtPort venue at the Green Mountain Mall for safe, in-person live music & theater events this spring.

Check out our Community Calendar for other arts & culture happenings in and around town at the Fairbanks Museum & Planetarium, the St. Johnsbury Athenaeum, Dog Mountain, St. Johnsbury History & Heritage Center, NEK Artisans Guild, and more.
