I confess – I didn’t know much about Beth Hart before I tuned in the 2012 Kennedy Center Honors and saw Beth Hart and Jeff Beck perform the tribute to blues great Buddy Guy. From the minute she took the stage and through each beat of Harts powerful and mesmerizing performance of Etta James’ “I’d Rather Go Blind” I was transfixed.  I hadn’t seen such an affecting blues vocalist since Janis Joplin and Aretha Franklin.  Other honorees that year included Led Zeppelin, Dustin Hoffman, David Letterman, and Russian-born prima ballerina Natalia Marakova.

The Kennedy Center tributes are always the best–better than the Oscars or Grammys.  But the Beth Hart performance was riveting. Some concert dates take years to land.  Trombone Shorty and Buddy Guy, to name just two.  It took us three years to confirm a St. Johnsbury Beth Hart concert date.  And we started immediately after seeing her Buddy Guy tribute.  There aren’t a lot of tickets left but every seat at St. J’s intimate Fuller Hall promises good sight lines and excellent sound.
